What's the difference between a balanced raw diet and ground raw meat? A balanced diet is formulated so that each component is nutritionally beneficial to your pet and it's health. Nothing additional needs to be added.

Raw meat is just that raw meat. It isn't balanced and additional components need to be added for your pet to have a balanced meal. There are also some negatives from feeding just raw meat such as too much protein intake which will cause sticky black stools, and potential  food allergies which can effect the coat and health. If you notice even kibble has additional ingredients such as fruits and veggies however it loses it's benefits once heated to form kibble.

Is feeding raw healthier?  Yes.. raw meat contains live enzymes, natural anti oxidants, fully digestible proteins, health promoting essential fatty acids, organic vitamins and minerals, etc.

Are bones safe for dogs? Raw bone is safe because it doesn't dry out and splinter like cook bone which can puncture vital organs. Also dogs have strong jaw bones, shorter digestive tracts, and the teeth designed for cutting and ripping which is ideal to consume raw. Raw bone helps with teeth cleaning, keeping the stool solid, and  finally it provides many nutritional components.

Is it safe for you dog to consume raw because it contains blood? The blood has living enzymes that are vital to your dog.

why grain free? Dogs don't produce the digestive enzyme amylase in their saliva which aids in the break down of carbohydrates. The burden of carbohydrates is placed on the dogs pancreas.

Is feeding raw meat harmful because of bacteria? Any time you're handling raw meat you want to make sure you wash hands clean surfaces ect. To answer the question NO remember dogs are natural scavengers and are well equipped to handle bacteria. Their saliva has antibacterial properties ( have you ever heard someone say if you get a wound let your dog lick it?) their short digestive tract and powerful digestive juices are designed to eliminate food and kill bacteria rapidly. It is more likely processed food will make your dog ill with the many of the major brands having recalls often.

What if my pet has only eaten kibble? Once switched to a natural, raw diet, your pet’s body will begin to cleanse itself. Stay patient.

Can I feed more than one protein?Start with one protein source. Once stool returns to normal consistency, small and firm, then you can begin to incorporate additional protein sources. As you begin to add proteins, always remember to remain patient. It’s important your pet is acclimated to each new protein source before introducing a new one.

Can I mix raw & kibble? While mixing isn't recommended because eat method breaks down differently it's ultimately up to you how you prefer to feed you pet.

Will feeding raw meat make my dog AGRESSIVE? NO No NO.. there are a ton of myths associated with feeding raw and this is one. That your dog will began to gain  a craving for blood the best way I explain this is you have blood can your dog decipher that you have blood and that they should eat you. Feeding raw will not make your dog blood thirsty, aggressive or a killer if anything those factors are based on the upbringing and training of a dog. People associate Resource guarding and aggression resource guarding is a dog simply  them guarding a high valued item of theirs. which can result in (teeth showing, growling, snarling, blocking the item with their bodies and barking) This should be handled with their food the same way you would for a toy, bone or owner. This again doesn't mean they are looking to attack anything.dhe

How do I know if I'm feeding to much bone or boneless meat? By observing your pet as they are going to the bathroom and by their stool. If your pet is straining to relieve themselves and has white and or crumbly poop this is a indicator you're feeding too much bone.

If you pet has a soft stool and or black poop this is a indicator that there's too much boneless meat (protein)

My dog isn't drinking a lot of water is this normal? Meat is made up mostly of water so dog who are being feed a raw diet tend to drink less water because they are getting water in their diet. Kibble has no water content so dog that are feed kibble tend to be thirsty more often and drink larger amounts of water. However be sure to give them access to clean drinking water anyhow.

I've been told by a VET / person a raw diet can kill my dog is this true? Absolutely not. People who give this opinion are simply giving their uneducated opinion. Unless they have a degree in nutrition changes are you are being misinformed. Our pets maybe domesticated but their internal systems haven't evolved into being able to breakdown processed foods such as kibble. As I stated earlier in the FAQS their entire bodies and digestive systems do better and can breakdown natural raw diets.

Can my dog get salmonella from consuming raw chicken?  The chances that you dog get salmonella position is very slim. Most cases of reported salmonella came from kibble contamination. You should take proper cleaning when handling, prepping and after feeding raw meat. remember dogs are natural scavengers and are well equipped to handle bacteria.

My dog is throwing up watery yellow stuff what is this and why? This is bile and can happen if you've recently breed your dog and she is pregnant. Pregnant females dogs can also show signs of morning sickness.

I you haven't breed your dog his is what raw feeders call “hunger pukes”. The reason this happens is because the rate in which raw and kibble are digested are completely different. Once kibble is ingested, it turns into sludge and sits in your dog’s stomach for up to 6 hours while the body tries to break it down. So your dog gets a sensation of being full for a longer period of time. On raw, your dog’s body consumes the protein within 2 hours… thus leaving your dog feeling hungry much quicker and the body reacts to this with hunger pukes. Usually this tends to happen when you feed on a pretty strict schedule. A good way to try and eliminate hunger pukes is by feeding at random times. So instead of feeding at 5:30 on the dot every afternoon, maybe one day feed at 6:30. Maybe another day at 5. Maybe even later in the evening on another day. Try to mix it up so that the dog isn’t expecting a meal at a specific time and or feeding a snack in between meals.

If your dog is throwing up continuously throughout the day, and/or cannot keep food or water down, and/or is acting strange, please see your vet immediately.

My dog is pooping less why? This is completely normal. Dogs that are on a raw diet actually absorb and use most of the protein being fed to them. Resulting in smaller, less frequent, less stinky poops. You should also notice that those smaller, less stinky poops will actually start turning white after 2-3 days and disintegrate.

My dog is straining when reliving itself why and what can I do? Chances are that during your pet’s transition to raw, there will come a time where you will either find your pet constipated or having lose stools. If your pet is trying to go to the bathroom, and nothing is coming out, then the explanation for this is simple. You fed too much bone.  Bone to dogs is like fiber to humans. If you feed too much bone, your dog will be constipated. If your dog is not constipated but his stools are white and crumbly, then you are still feeding too much bone. You fed too much bone and now your pet is constipated. The next step would be to give your dog a meal of boneless meats. The reasoning behind this is that you are trying to balance out all the extra bone you fed. If this does not help get your dog’s bowels moving, then your other option would be to fast your dog for 24 hours and allow his system to rest. Another commonly suggested piece of advice would be to introduce some raw canned pumpkin into your dog’s diet. We don’t recommend this option unless every other option has failed to help. The reason why we try and steer away from pumpkin is because this is temporary this resolves the symptom, but does not address the problem. Yes, pumpkin has a multi-purpose use in which it helps firm up loose stools. It also helps get the bowels moving when there is constipation. But ideally you want to help your pet by fixing the problem, rather than by addressing just the symptom of the problem.

My dog has diarrhea why and what do I do? Diarrhea, is watery and loose stool, that can occur during the beginning stages of raw or transitioning to raw. With some basic feeding changes it should go away within a day or two. Sometimes their stools might have some spots of bright red blood, which is nothing to rush to the vet for. This means the large intestine is irritated, especially if the dog has diarrhea or has been having a hard time going to the bathroom. It could also be caused by small scratches in the GI tract caused by very bony stools. Simply keep an eye on your dog and watch to see if it starts to go away with the next bowel movements.

When diarrhea occurs, there are a few things that you can do to help get your dog back to a normal stool.

1. Make sure you remove any skin and fat from what you are feeding

2. Feed more bone. Once the stool starts to firm up, start cutting down on the excess bone and resume normal feedings

3. Reduce the amount of food being offered. Overfeeding can shock the system and cause diarrhea!

If your dog is having diarrhea due to the introduction of a new protein or organ, simply go back to the last items you fed until a normal stool is established for a couple of days. Then slowly begin to introduce the new item again in small amounts and doubling each day until fully transitioned.
